Submat

Developed and patented by SLP's Submat division in 1971, the original subsea pipeline protection mattress is synonymous with subsea pipeline protection.

Submat bitumen mattresses have been deployed on numerous projects on an international scale and remain a proven cost effective solution to many applications associated with subsea pipeline technology.

These mattresses consist of a durable outer canvas envelope which is accompanied by integral lifting slings; these are then filled with a dense, suitably re-enforced bitu-mastic filler material. All components combine to produce a flexible mattress that is suited for dealing with all pipeline support, stabilisation and protection requirements.

The mattress in its solid form retains a flexible nature even in the coldest operational conditions. This enables the mattress to respond to ever changing conditions, something which is particularly attributed to the problems of scour.

With its relatively void-less mass and size versatility the bitumen mattress is particularly successful in applications such as pipeline crossovers where support piers may be constructed with a minimal number of offshore lifts. It is installed with a quick release frame which can be supplied as an integral part of each order.
